Performance History
I have been a professional musician for 33 years. I have appeared as a solo artist. I have Performed in rock, country, blues, doowop, jazz, bluegrass and big bands. I have collaborated scoring and performing on a movie sound track. I have been the musical director of two road show bands. I have also appeared on TV, radio and videos.
Technique/Style/Lesson Books Used
My teaching style is to emphasize fundamentals which apply to all styles. Almost all of my students can use a pick, play finger-style and use the versatile pick and grab technique. I also use the CAGED approach of harmonic analysis for guitar. It is a systematic approach by which every chord on the guitar can be traced to a C, A, G, E, or D chord. I have students who specialize in Jazz, Blues, Country, Classical and Pop. My approach to Rock is Blues-based.
The method books I use include, but are not limited to:
"A Modern Method for Guitar" (Volumes 1 & 2) by Wm. G. Leavitt
"How To Play Guitar" (Volumes 1 & 2) by Ernie Ball
"Alfred's Basic Guitar Method" (Volumes 1 & 2) by Alfred d' Auberge & Morton Manus
"The Christopher Parkening Method" (Volumes 1 & 2)
"Mickey Baker's Complete Course in Jazz Guitar" by Mickey Baker
"Preparations" & "Concepts" by Howard Morgan
I augment my students' studies with my own personal manuscripts of timeless music collected over 30 years of teaching.
Skill Levels Taught
I welcome all ages and skill levels. If you already play, I can help you play better. Your family, friends and musical colleagues will notice the difference. If you are just getting started, I can help you avoid the early problems of trying to show yourself how to play. I am an organized, experienced, patient instructor. Teaching is all I do. Our first lesson is free.
Length of Lesson/Which Days Available
My fee covers four one-half hour lessons per month. I teach Tuesday through Saturday.
